The Play and The Theater

The Play and The Theater

In theater, the question of which is more important – people or the stage – has a rather obvious answer. But that doesn’t mean that space serves merely as a passive backdrop. Can the stage, its space, the theater, and its building actively play a role in the drama? Can they even emerge as characters in the play? Conversely, how do plays, narratives, events and activities promote creativity and not just occupy space in the building? In this dialogue, Stan Lai and Yung Ho Chang discuss the critical relationships between drama and the stage, people and architecture.
