Introduction
The Red Brick Art Museum is located in the No.1 International Art District in the northeastern portion of Chaoyang District, Beijing. Red Brick’s facilities cover a total area of 20,000 square meters, nearly 10,000 square meters of which is the exhibition space. It was founded by collectors Yan Shijie and Cao Mei in 2014, and officially opened on May 23rd. The architecture and garden design of the museum is done by Professor Dong Yugan of the Peking University Architectural Research Center. Employing red bricks as a basic architectural material, Professor Dong maintained the integrity of each brick to create a unique architectural design language that isolates the museum and garden from the city’s restless atmosphere.
The main building of the Red brick Art Museum consists of two floors above ground and one underground. These spaces include 9 exhibition center, 2 public recreational areas, and a design shop. As the element that sets Red Brick Art Museum apart from other art museums, the modern garden that is furnished meticulously based on traditional Chinese garden, complementing the visiting experience and facility here at Red Brick; multimedia, restaurant, cafe, VIP lounge, and other equipment are all located here at the garden.
In the future, the Red Brick Art Museum will promote the development of Chinese contemporary art through high-quality exhibitions, gathering a diverse collections, research, education, publications, and public events. Furthermore, Red Brick Art Museum will also participate in international contemporary artists exchange programs, carrying out research in academic issues and phenomenon to provide a tangible marketing and developing reference for modern day Chinese private art museums.
